Arts Academy

What is it?

Arts Academy is a free after-school program offered to all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students interested in taking additional Arts/PE courses after the end of the school day. The program runs from late September to mid-May from 2:30-3:35pm every day except Tuesdays. Transportation is NOT provided.

How does it work?

After reading the Arts Academy Handbook students decide which classes they would like to take and fill out the registration form. This form is available on paper as well as digitally via the QR code/web address listed here: https://tinyurl.com/MoreheadAAReg 

After registration closes, the Arts/PE teachers look at student preference and class sizes to sort students into classes. Parents then attend a Parent Orientation to walk their student's schedule and learn about parking and pick up procedures.

I didn't get a confirmation email from the registration form, what should I do?
Please email Mrs. Braswell at braswej@gcsnc.com so that she can confirm your registration. You may also find this confirmation email in your junk/spam folder. It comes from Google Forms. 

My child was in Arts Academy last year. Do I still need to fill out a registration form for the current school year?

Yes, all students need an updated registration for the current school year as class dates and offerings have changed. 

My child was in Arts Academy last year. Do I still need to attend a Parent Orientation?

Yes, regardless of past participation, all students must have an adult attend the parent orientation each year or they will not be allowed to participate in Arts Academy.

Will my child be in every Arts Academy class they register for?

No. Students can only be in up to 4 Arts Academy classes (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday). Classes are built based on student preference and class size.

What if I cannot get to school to pick up my child at 3:35pm?

All students must be picked up by 3:35pm. Adults that you approve on a list at the parent orientation are welcome to come get your child. If you will be late picking up your child, your child will be in the front office and you will receive a late notice. Each student is only allowed 3 late pick ups before being excused from the class. The Arts/PE staff have commitments after 3:35pm that they must attend to.
